Wayne Set To Up Vape Purchasing And Smoking Age To 21

People who sell an e-cigarette or vaping device to someone younger than 21 will be fined $1,000. Underage users will be fined at least $250.

WAYNE, NJ — The age for purchasing e-cigarettes and vaping devices and products in town is set to go up from 19 to 21.

The Township Council will vote on an ordinance Wednesday that would change the age. The ordinance covers electronic versions of the following devices: Cigarettes, cigars and cigarillos and all cartridge-based devices, including vape pens.

People younger than 21 caught smoking such devices will be fined a minimum of $250.

Also, merchants are required to ask customers who look 26 years old or younger for proof of age via government-issued photo identification.

Merchants must display signs that explain the new buying age.
