Wayne Teen Battling Cancer Comes Home As Community Rallies For Rocco
Rocco Sivolella and his school celebrated his 15th birthday. He'll throw out the first pitch Saturday for Wayne Little League's opening day.

WAYNE, NJ — Rocco Sivolella's battle against cancer isn't over, but he and the Wayne community have plenty of reason to celebrate. Sivolella came home from the hospital Friday — just in time for Easter, his 15th birthday and the honor of throwing out the first pitch for Wayne Little League's opening day.
The Wayne Valley High School freshman was diagnosed in January with acute myeloid leukemia. Sivolella left the hospital last week after completing his third round of chemotherapy, according to his mother, Paula Corrieri.
Sivolella will head back in about two weeks for his next treatment, Corrieri told Patch. But first, the Wayne community will make the most of his time home.

The Wayne teen turned 15 on Tuesday. Wayne schools encouraged faculty, staff and students to wear their "We Fight with Rocco" apparel or the color orange. (Orange is the color for acute myeloid leukemia awareness.)

Then, Sivolella will throw out the first pitch for Wayne Little League's opening day at about 9 a.m. Saturday at the Wayne Little League complex, next to the Boys & Girls Club.
