Tax Increase Looms With Proposed $94.5 M Wayne Budget; Public Hearing Wednesday
The proposed 2023 municipal budget is $94.541 million, and would include a property tax increase for township residents.
WAYNE, NJ — Residents have the chance to make their voices heard at Wayne Township Council on Wednesday, at a public hearing for the 2023 municipal budget which would include a property tax increase.
The 2023 budget is projected to be $94.541 million, which is about a $7 million increase from last year's final budget. Township officials have said rising costs for insurance, pensions for police officers and firefighters, and day-to-day expenses contributed to the increase.
The public hearing is at council's 7:30 p.m. meeting on Wednesday, May 17, located in the council chambers at the municipal building (475 Valley Road). See the agenda here.

The township projects it will need to bring in about $3 million more in taxes this year compared to 2022. This represents an increase of $139.68 per year for a house valued at $275,000.

Township Council may vote to approve the budget on Wednesday.
The Wayne Township Board of Education also approved its 2023-24 budget at its May 4 meeting, which includes a 3.53 percent tax levy increase.
