Wayne Valley Football Team Stands With Law Enforcement Officers

Mothers of Wayne show its support of the 'Thin Blue Line' by dropping off more than 100 snack packs to the police department Wednesday.

WAYNE, N.J. — Wayne police officers expressed their thanks to the Wayne Valley High School football team for honoring law enforcement personnel during the Indians’ home opener this week.

Co-captain Jake Pluta carried a “thin blue line” flag when the team ran out onto the field.

“We the members of the Wayne Police Department and speaking on behalf of our partner law enforcement agencies can't adequately express our sincere thanks to the Wayne Board of Education for allowing Wayne Valley High School students, teachers, and athletes to dedicate the 2016 opening football game to all law enforcement,” said Detective Capt. Laurence W. Martin.

The act represents, “all that's good in our township and the United States of America,” Martin said.

Mayor Chris Vergano arraigned for a ‘Thin Blue Line’ to be painted in front of police headquarters and the municipal complex on Valley Road.

“Once again we the members of service in the Police Department are flattered that this show of support will be visible for all the residents and visitors in our community and serve as a reminder to the sacrifices made by the members of the Law Enforcement agencies that serve our residents,” Martin said.

In another show of support, Maureen Toussas of the Mothers of Wayne delivered 139 lunch bags filled with snacks for all police department officers and staff Thursday.

“Once again we are thankful for this expression of support and recognition of our work, proving once again that Wayne is great community to live and work in,” Martin said.
