Wayne Woman Wins $1M Lottery Prize

WAYNE, NJ — Carole Halleran of Wayne had a decision most people never get to make: $1,000 a week for life or $1 million in cash.

Halleran chose the $1 million. She won the prize playing the NJ Lottery CASH4LIFE game after using a "buy one, get one free" coupon she found in her local newspaper.

Halleran stopped at ShopRite on Hamburg Turnpike to get coffee for her husband and remembered she had the coupon in her pocket. She bought a $2 Quick Pick ticket and redeemed the coupon for the CASH4LIFE ticket.

Halleran got a call from her daughter who saw on the news that a winning CASH4LIFE ticket had been sold at the Wayne ShopRite.

Halleran checked her ticket and saw that she had all of the numbers, except for the Cash Ball, good for the second-place prize. She even double checked the ticket to make sure she won. Her previous highest winning prize was just $11.

Halleran will save some of the money and invest some of it for her family's future, a lottery official said.
