Wayne YMCA Encouraging Kids To Walk 1 Million Steps

The 1 Million Steps Challenge is encouraging kids to get out and be active in the fight against childhood obesity.

WAYNE, NJ — The Wayne YMCA is encouraging kids to walk 1 million steps next week as part of a campaign to fight childhood obesity.

The 1 Million Steps Challenge is celebrating Healthy U, a childhood obesity-prevention program that is challenging kids at all Metro YMCA locations to walk 1 million steps Oct. 26 starting at 4 p.m.

The Y will be providing pedometers to count children's steps as they participate in games and activities at the facility.

The Metro YMCA encourages families to be more active by having a screen-free night at home, going for a walk or making a meal together from scratch.

The New Jersey YMCA State Alliance created the Healthy U initiative in 2008. More than 46,000 children statewide at 480 YMCAs and elementary schools.
