Wayne's February COVID Case Total 'Much Better' As Omicron Wanes
The township reported 119 infections last month — significantly lower than January's total of 1,674 and December's tally of 2,130.

WAYNE, NJ — Mayor Christopher P. Vergano may have hosted the series finale for Wayne Township's COVID-19 updates. Vergano reported only 119 cases in Wayne for February — significantly lower than January's total of 1,674 and December's tally of 2,130.
"I hope this is going to be my last COVID update, because it seems that things are going much better," Vergano said.
Coincidentally, Vergano and Gov. Phil Murphy each held their final COVID briefings Friday — the two-year anniversary of New Jersey's first-reported case of the virus. The state will eliminate its last major mask mandate Monday, when K-12 schools and childcare facilities can make masks optional.
