Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Passaic County: Winds Above 60 MPH, Hail Possible
Strong wind gusts, hail, and lightning are possible in the Wayne area as storms move in Monday afternoon and into the evening.

WAYNE, NJ — Storms in New Jersey on Monday afternoon could bring damaging wind gusts and hail up to 1 inch in diameter, as the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in Passaic County.
The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for Bergen, Sussex, Warren, Morris, and counties as well as Passaic.
"There are chances of hail and strong winds up to 65 MPH, with lighting also possible," said the National Weather Service office in New York. An isolated tornado is also possible in severe thunderstorms, added weather forecasters.

Forecast models show a higher chance of severe weather in communities farther south, but the storms could still pack a punch in North Jersey according to the NWS. Several towns in other parts of the Garden State chose to postpone fireworks shows which were planned Monday.

Here is the forecast through Independence Day in Wayne Township, per the National Weather Service:
Monday afternoon: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. West wind around 6 mph.
Monday night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 5am. Some storms could be severe, with heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Calm wind.
Independence Day: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 2pm and 5pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Tuesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
