Hindu students honor their teachers by showing their appreciation through ancient Hindu traditions.

On May 11th, 2024, the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) West Windsor Plainsboro chapter and Hindi USA came together to host a memorable Guru Vandana event at the Plainsboro Recreational Center. Guru Vandana, an ancient Indian tradition, is a celebration of gratitude where students honor their teachers for their invaluable contribution to their education and personal growth.
The event was graced by the presence of more than 168 attendees, including 31 teachers and 2 township officials. Among the dignitaries were the Mayor of Plainsboro, Mr. Peter Cantu, and members from Board of Education from the West Windsor-Plainsboro district.

The program began with a warm welcome to all the esteemed guests, followed by a series of cultural performances that highlighted the rich and diverse heritage of India. Volunteers, ranging from all ages, skillfully choreographed and performed a variety of traditional dances and folk songs, reflecting the vibrancy of Indian traditions and culture.

A special highlight of the event was Mayor Peter Cantu's heartfelt speech. He expressed his deep appreciation for the staff, the school board, and especially the teachers who work tirelessly for their students in the district. Mr. Cantu graciously commented on how this event was the "perfect culmination of diversity and inclusivity in the district."

The core of the celebration was the Guru Shishya Parampara, the revered teacher-student tradition. Teachers were invited to the stage, where students expressed their deep gratitude in a traditional Indian manner. They applied Tilak and Akshata (yellow colored unbroken rice) on their teachers' foreheads, touched their feet, and bowed before them to seek blessings.

The event concluded with refreshments, leaving everyone with smiles and a sense of fulfillment. It was a day filled with respect, gratitude, and celebration, honoring the timeless bond between teachers and students.
