Increased Security At West Deptford Schools After Texas Tragedy

Gov. Murphy has tweeted that there is 'no credible threat' in New Jersey.

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — There will be an increase in patrols in and around several area schools in the wake of the school shooting in Texas that left 19 children and two adults dead, said the West Deptford Police Department.

"The children of West Deptford and National Park are of the highest priority to us, and we take many steps on a daily basis to ensure their safety, as well as the safety of the faculty and staff," West Deptford Police said.

Even so, the department will step up its patrols at West Deptford and National Park schools for the rest of the school year, the department continued.

"All officers that are permanently assigned to our schools will also be on location and taking steps to ensure the safety of our students and staff," the department said.

Anyone who sees "suspicious activity" around any school or within the community should contact the West Deptford Police Department immediately, the department said.

Gov. Phil Murphy tweeted Tuesday night that there "no credible threats" in New Jersey.

In Garden State communities where the New Jersey State Police is the primary law enforcement agency, troopers will ramp up their patrols around schools, acting Attorney General Matthew Platkin said.
