Body Part Discovered Near Delaware River In South Jersey: Police

The body part was discovered Sunday afternoon.

NATIONAL PARK, NJ — A human leg that was discovered in National Park on Sunday was decomposed when it was found, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said Sunday night.

The prosecutor's office announced the discovery of part of a human leg that apparently washed up from the Delaware River at about 9 p.m. Later in the night, the office confirmed that the leg was decomposed when a woman who was walking her dog discovered it.

Police responding to a report of the discovery described it as the lower part of a decomposed leg, from the knee down, with the the foot attached.

There were no clothing or markings on the limb, and no other body parts were found. The leg was transported to the Gloucester County Medical Examiner's Office where a DNA sample will be collected in an effort to make an identification.

The West Deptford Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office are investigating.
