Father, Son Charged In Capitol Riot With Third South Jersey Man: Feds

Open-source video from Parler and Facebook captured footage of the three South Jersey men in the Capitol building, federal officials said.

SOUTH JERSEY— Three more South Jersey residents have been charged in connection with the attempted insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, according to federal officials.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Sewell resident David Kraus, 55, and his 32-year-old son Nicholas, of Pitman, spent about 17 minutes inside the Capitol that day. They are charged along with 39-year-old Russell Dodge Jr., of Pedricktown (Salem County) according to federal court records.

Krauss, Krauss, and Dodge face the following charges, according to the DOJ:

  • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(1) - Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds
  • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(2) - Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds
  • 40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(D) - Disorderly Conduct on Capitol Grounds
  • 40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(G) - Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in Capitol Building.

Open-source video from Parler and Facebook, as well as security footage from the Capitol, captured footage of the three men during the riot, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Officials say they entered via the Senate Wing Door and moved through the Rotunda and Crypt.

David Krauss took a photo of Nicholas and of Dodge while they were inside, federal officials said. The three men were inside for about 17 minutes, court papers show.

All three men identified themselves to the FBI this spring, according to the Department of Justice.

The three men were arrested Nov. 15 in Cherry Hill, according to federal records.

As of Monday, 28 people have been arrested in New Jersey in connection with the riots, the Department of Justice said. Some of these cases have already gone through the court system, while other accused parties await trial.
