Funeral Services Set For William Crothers, Gloucester City's Former Police Chief

William Crothers was 68 years old when he died on March 5, his obituary said.

GLOUCESTER CITY — Funeral services for William Crothers, the former police chief of Gloucester City, will be held tomorrow in that community, the Gloucester City Police Department said on its Facebook page.

According to his obituary, Crothers was with the Gloucester City Police Department for 29 years, having been a Drug Abuse Resistance Education — commonly known as D.A.R.E. — officer, detective, sergeant, and lieutenant before being named the community's police chief. Prior to serving Gloucester City, he worked with the Woodbury and Oaklyn Police Departments.

Crothers was 68 years old when he died on March 5, his obituary said. He is survived by his wife, two children, seven grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.

Visitation is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. tomorrow in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church at 426 Monmouth Street in Gloucester City, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 1 p.m., according to the obituary. Cremation will be held privately, the obituary noted.

Parking on the 400 block of Monmouth Street will not be allowed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow due to the funeral services, according to the Gloucester City Police Department's Facebook page.
