Plumpest Pumpkins Return To South Jersey For 25th Annual Giant Pumpkin Carve

Volunteers are still needed to carve giant pumpkins for the Oct. 1 event, which benefits Meals on Wheels of Salem County.

WOODSTOWN, NJ — Calling New Jersey pumpkin carvers of all ages: An annual festival, raising money to feed the elderly and homebound, is looking for some help scooping out giant gourds and getting them ready for the big show.

The annual Giant Pumpkin Carve is this Saturday, benefitting Salem County Meals on Wheels. The event began in 1997 to raise money for those needing food assistance, with just 20 pumpkins and a small audience. Now, volunteers and artists carve dozens of pumpkins and the event draws thousands each year, the website says.

The event highlight is the pumpkins — two barns full of them, which visitors can vote on. There is also a Farm Market with more than 50 vendors, and a hay ride through the property with a good view of scarecrows (designed by local youth). Music, a costume contest, pie-eating contest, and Monster Mash dance contest will entertain guests at the main stage.

The event is from 3-9 p.m. on October 1, 2022 at the Salem County Fairgrounds (735 Harding Hwy, Woodstown, NJ 08098).

Volunteers of all ages and skill levels can help turn the pumpkins, which range from 75 to 100 pounds, into works of art. There is no cost to volunteer, and those who offer their services as pumpkin carvers get free admission and a t-shirt. Carving begins Friday at 4 p.m. For more information or to register, click here.
