Grab and Go Family Planner: Fossils, Pickles and the Karate Kid

Whether you are searching for a new kind of adventure or a re-make of a familiar movie, Patch has the lowdown on local family-friendly events.

What's the best thing about summer? No school for the kids, the sunny weather or something else? Whatever your answer, get out there and enjoy it while it lasts. Below are five events for the whole family–three of them free!

Paisley Pickles

  • Where/When: Fasola Park–12 Sycamore Lane, Deptford, NJ.
    10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 12.
  • What’s Going On: Join the sing-along, dance along fun with the family entertainers Paisley Pickles Band. This high energy three-piece plays original food-themed music geared toward children ages 3 through 10 and are the stars of the soon to be aired Paisley Pickles Show.
  • Pricing: Free

The Karate Kid (2010) at Lindenwold Park

  • Where/When: Lindenwold Park/Amphitheater–1000 United States Ave., Lindenwold, NJ. 8:15 p.m. on Friday, August 12.
  • What’s Going On: Enjoythe 2010 re-make of the classic fight for your rights family film The Karate Kid on the big screen
    outside. When a single mother brings her son to China he embraces kung fu taught to him by a new master. This modern adaptation features Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
  • Pricing: free

Fossil Fun

  • Where/When: The Garden State Discovery Museum–2040 Springdale Rd., Cherry Hill, NJ. 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 13.
  • What’s Going On: Make your very own dinosaur fossil with the folks at the Garden State Discovery Museum! And while you are there, check out all of their other wonderful attractions.
  • Pricing: $10.95 for adults and children 12 months and over, $9.95 for seniors. All programs are free with admission unless otherwise noted.

Kids Wheelchair Sports Spectacular

  • Where/When: Wells Fargo Center–3601 S. Broad St., Philadelphia PA. 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 13.
  • What’s Going On: This one day event features sports and recreation clinics for children ages 4-21 with disabilities including wheelchair basketball, power hockey, wheelchair tennis,
    hand cycling and more! Student managers of Villanova’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, Nick Gaynor and Frank Kinesey, both have disabilities and will be the special guests of the day.
  • Pricing: Free

Peach, Princess and Pirate Party Family Festival

  • Where/When: Camden Children’s Garden–3 Riverside Dr., Camden, NJ. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14.
  • What’s Going On: Take part in crafts, a planting activity and a treasure hunt- all centered around the NJ peach! Children can dress in their favorite pirate or princess costumes and enjoy the similarly themed crafts.
  • Pricing: $6 a person, free for children 2 and under.
