Grab and Go Kids Planner: Youth Orchestras, Princes, Paupers and Mademoiselles

Take in a play, fashion show, youth orchestra, storytelling event, or learn more about disabilities in kid-friendly formats.

Spring feels like its just around the corner but it's just not warm enough to go outside! Well, fear not. Patch has got you covered. Get out to one of these family friendly events before the winter blues eat you alive!

The Philadelphia International Flower Show Family Night

  • Where/When: Philadelphia Convention Center–N. 12th and Arch streets, Philadelphia, PA. Friday March 11 and Saturday March 12 from 7 to 8 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: Storyteller and musician Ruthanne E. Ankey brings her delightful show Mademoiselle Papillon's Enchanted Flower Market to the Philadelphia International Flower Show. This is a truly original storytelling performance designed for the whole family. Enjoy the music, puppetry and interactive theater as Mademoiselle Papillion spreads joy with the secret language of flowers.
  • Pricing: Family four-pack for $70. Pricing per individual ticket varies.

  • Where/When: Ritz Theatre Company—915 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, NJ. Shows are on Friday March 11 at 10 a.m. and Saturday March 12 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: The Ritz Theatre brings this classic rags to riches tale to life on stage for one weekend only. Live the tale of two boys who decide to change their fate by switching clothes–and their lives as well! Doors open 30 minutes before show time.
  • Pricing:  $10 plus a service charge

Access/ABILITY

  • Where/When: The Please Touch Museum–4231 Avenue of the Republics, Memorial Hall, Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, PA. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 and open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 13.
  • What’s Going On: Access/ABILITY is a traveling exhibit designed for young families and features fun and interactive activities that shows the similarities and differences in how we all go places, communicate, play and learn with or without disabilities. Participants can learn sign language, type their name in Braille, try a hand pedaled bike and much more.
  • Pricing: Children and adults: $15, children under the age of one: free

 Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s “Tune Up Philly” Concert

  • Where/When: St. Francis DeSales–47th Street and Springfield Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. The show begins at 2 p.m. on March 12.
  • What’s Going On: Youth from “one of the oldest and most highly regarded youth orchestras in the United States” will be performing an orchestral concert. Tune Up Philly is a after-school program for more than 80 West Philadelphia children from St. Francis De Sales and is sponsored by PYO.
  • Pricing: free

 14th Annual American Girl Doll Fashion Show

  • Where/When: Tavistock Country Club–100 Tavistock Ln., Haddonfield, NJ. The event will be held at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 12 and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 13.
  • What’s Going On: Girls from the South Jersey and Philadelphia area will be modeling fashions from the American Girl line up in the name of a good cause: The Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey. There will also be raffles, and ice cream social, door prizes and other events. Part of the proceeds will benefit the families of seriously ill children via the Ronald McDonald House.
  • Pricing: $35 a ticket
