Homes Evacuated For Gas Main Break In South Jersey

A senior center is being used as a temporary shelter.

Update, 3 p.m. Wednesday: The gas leak has been contained, and evacuated residents can return to their homes, police said.

Pembrook Drive at Egg Harbor Road remains closed.


WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — Several homes have been evacuated after a gas main break Wednesday in Washington Township.

The incident occurred on Pembrook Road. Atlantic City Electric and South Jersey Gas are at the scene with first responders as of this writing.

Police reported the gas main break at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Homes on Mulberry Road, Pembrook and Benner roads were evacuated. The Washington Township Senior Center (315 Greentree Rd., Sewell) is providing temporary shelter for evacuated residents of the of the Ashton Leas Development and Greenwood Park.

Pembrook Road has been closed.
