Less Than a Month to West Deptford School Board Filing Deadline
Interested candidates can get a candidate kit online or in person at the district offices.

Interested West Deptford school board candidates have just about four weeks left to get a nominating petition into the board secretary before the filing deadline.
Candidates can get a candidate kit at the West Deptford district offices at the , or online at the New Jersey School Boards Association’s website, njsba.org.
All candidates have to collect at least ten valid signatures on a nominating petition, must be at least 18 years old and have to have lived in West Deptford for at least a year prior to the April election date.

There will be three full three-year terms up this year out of nine seats on the board. Current board members Jim Mehaffey, Don Hicks and Peter Guzzetti have terms expiring this year.
The current deadline for nominating petitions is 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, though that’s subject to change, pending a final decision on when the school board election will be held.

Currently, the election is scheduled for April 17, but a vote from the school board–or the township committee–could shift it back to the general election in November.
After a discussion on the possibility of moving the election at the last school board meeting, current board President Christopher Strano said a final call could come at the board’s Feb. 13 meeting, ahead of the filing deadline.
