Long Lines, Delays At West Deptford MVC For Second Straight Day

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — One day after closing early due to long lines and wait times, the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) office in West Deptford was running late opening on Wednesday, according to witnesses.

Once again, a long line snaked around the outside of the building. Some people waiting in line have been waiting since Monday, according to a video posted on Twitter Wednesday morning.

MVCs across New Jersey opened for the first time in more than four months on Tuesday, and it was the same thing everywhere: long lines and wait times, angry customers and offices that had to stop taking new people early due to a backlog.

“I was at West Deptford MVC and waited three hours with my son who was waiting to get his license to be told we closed,” one person wrote. “That was at noon.”

The state planned for vehicle and licensing centers to open on June 29 along with road tests and inspections, but delayed the opening to Tuesday because of coronavirus concerns. New Jersey's Motor Vehicle Commission has been closed since mid-March in an attempt to help stop the spread of the disease. Agency management personnel were deployed to the MVC’s busiest agencies, beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, and senior staff operations were deployed to agencies to help process transactions, according to NJMVC Chief Administrator Sue Fulton.

Republican Assemblyman Jon Bramnick of Union was critical of the issues at the MVCs on Tuesday, and took to Twitter Wednesday morning to call for action from Gov. Phil Murphy.
