Man Killed In Hit-And-Run On South Jersey Highway: Police

State police are seeking witnesses to the fatal crash between a motorcycle and an unknown vehicle.

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ — Police are seeking an unknown driver who they say fled a crash that killed a motorcyclist Sunday in Gloucester County.

The crash occurred at about 3:50 p.m. on Route 55 southbound in Franklin Township. State Police identified William Baldwin, 62, of Newfield, as the man killed.

Baldwin, riding a Harley-Davidson, was traveling on the on-ramp from Route 40 eastbound to State Highway 55 southbound, authorities said. On the on-ramp near milepost 39.2, his motorcycle lost control, veered left, struck the curb and entered the southbound side, according to the preliminary investigation from State Police.

At that time, an unknown vehicle struck the motorcycle and ejected Baldwin from the motorcycle, police said. The driver fled the scene before state troopers arrived, according to law enforcement.

The unknown vehicle had at least one set of tandem tires, police said.
