Man Kills Wife, Self At South Jersey Health Facility: Prosecutor

The man shot his wife before turning the gun on himself early Tuesday morning.

A 76-year-old South Jersey man shot his wife at a rehab facility where she was being treated before he turned the gun on himself Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Raymond McKenna, 76, of Mullica Hill, fatally shot 74-year-old Arlene McKenna at the Jefferson Health Care Center’s Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Unit on Egg Harbor Road in Sewell, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office. He then fatally shot himself.

Arlene McKenna was transported to the trauma unit of Cooper Medical Center in Camden, where she was pronounced dead. Raymond McKenna died at the scene.

The other patients are safe and staff is caring for them, according to a statement from the health care center that was posted online early Tuesday afternoon.

No motive was known for the shooting, which police described as an isolated incident at the 60-bed sub-acute rehabilitation center that took place shortly before 8 a.m.

Officers with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Washington Township Police Department are investigating.
