Man Sentenced in West Deptford Child Sex Assault

Brandon Albrecht previously pleaded guilty to assaulting a child under the age of 13.

A Williamstown man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13 in West Deptford on Nov. 1, 2013.

Brandon Albrecht, 29, must serve 85 percent of his prison term before he is eligible for parole, will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and will be subject to at least 15 years of parole supervision after release from prison.

The child victim’s mother addressed the court before sentencing, saying the disclosure of abuse, initially made to a sibling, were words no parent should have to hear. Her child’s innocence was stolen and cannot be recovered, she said. Fortunately, the child was smart enough to know what Albrecht did was wrong and reveal it, she added.

In reviewing sentencing factors in favor of and adverse to a defendant, Judge Robert P. Becker credited only Albecht’s willingness to cooperate with law enforcement and plead guilty on Nov. 16, 2015.

However, he said that was substantially outweighed by so-called “aggravating” factors that include victimizing someone who is particularly vulnerable. Albrecht’s plea came following negotiations with Senior Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Staci Scheetz.

While the state’s sex offender treatment center at Avenel determined Albrecht was not a repetitive and compulsive offender after interviewing him, amenable to treatment at the center while serving his sentence, the report expressed considerable concern because of the victim’s age and recommended psychotherapy for Albrecht, the judge said.
