NEW JERSEY — A New Jersey man convicted of stabbing a stranger to death because he thought he was a werewolf is not allowed to use online dating sites or social media, a Virginia judge ordered.

Pankaj Bhasin, a native of NJ, was found not guilty by reason of insanity after killing Bradford Jackson inside an Old Town Alexandria business in July 2018. Court records show Bhasin had an address in Turnersville, Gloucester County.

As reported by NBC Washington, a judge ordered Bhasin's social media to be removed, except for LinkedIn. Officials say Bhasin drove from New Jersey to Virginia and stabbed Jackson more than 50 times with a box cutter to “save 99 percent of the moon and planets," as NJ 101.5 reported. Bhasin had recently checked out of a psychiatric hospital in New Jersey when he made the drive to Virginia, officials said at the time.

The victim, 65, had been a manager at the Window Universe store when he was killed. The men did not know one another. Bhasin used a box cutter and a dry-erase marker in the attack, reports said.

A friend of Jackson's told NBC Washington she found his Facebook dating profile said he was "easygoing" and recently returned from "two years of travel."

In reality, Bhasin had been released from a Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services facility earlier this year over prosecutors' objections, according to the Alexandria Times.

According to NBC Washington, Bhasin's conditional release includes conditions about taking medication, wearing a GPS monitor and home visits by mental health staff. The new motion sought by Alexandria's prosecutor seeks to add a condition to stop Bhasin from using social media or have his social media use be monitored.

The incident happened on the morning of July 13, 2018 when police responded to the 1200 block of King Street in Alexandria, Va. Bhasin, who had just exited from a building housing a business called Window Universe, had his pants down and was covered in blood, according to authorities.

He attempted to enter the car of a stranger, whose occupants quickly left the vehicle and called 911. When the police arrived on the scene, they removed the defendant from the vehicle, according to authorities.

The police proceeded to enter Window Universe, where they discovered Jackson's body. A trial was held in March 2019 at which the defendant pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, according to authorities.
