Pennsylvania Punches Ticket To Eastern Regional Final

Pennsylvania won a pair of games Wednesday to reach the finals against Maryland.

When West Deptford looks back at its run in the Senior League Baseball Eastern Regional, it may find that it simply went up against a juggernaut.

Pennsylvania champ Greater Wyoming, which defeated West Deptford twice over the last week, scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to rally for a 6-4 win over Massachusetts champ Quincy to earn a place in the Eastern Regional final.

Pennsylvania will face Maryland in the finals today at 10 a.m. If Pennsylvania wins, they will force a third game to be contested at 1 p.m., or shortly after the completion of the first game.

With Pennsylvania trailing Massachusetts 4-3 in the sixth, Jack Granteed singled and Eric Walkowiak followed with a double to put runners at second and third. Jordan Zezza grounded out to second to push home the tying run.

Adam Romanowski, who was 0-for-7 in the regional entering the game, followed with a single to plate Walkowiak with the go-ahead run.

Pennsylvania pushed the lead to 6-4 later in the inning, thanks to a bases-loaded walk.

Nick O’Brien was able to get around an error and an allowed walk to close the door in the seventh.

The loss was the second of the day for Quincy, who fell into the loser’s bracket after a 6-4 defeat to Maryland champ Talbot.

Pennsylvania eliminated New York earlier in the day, with a 1-0 win. Adam Romanowski fired a one-hit gem in 6 2/3 innings of relief for O’Brien, who had control problems to start the game. O’Brien did score the game's lone run, as he led off the game with a double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Trent Grove.
