South Jersey Superintendent Charged With Assault In Bat Attack

The superintendent of a South Jersey school district reportedly employed a company to spy on his wife, then attacked an employee of the company for doing a bad job.

Michael Knox, 48, of Burlington, is accused of employing a Philadelphia-based company to spy on his wife, NBC 10 reports. When he felt they weren’t doing a good job, he attacked an employee of the company with a baseball bat and fled the scene, leaving behind his school ID. He was later arrested in Sussex County, New Jersey.

Knox has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime with intent to use, terroristic threats and simple assault, according to Philadelphia County Municipal Court.

Knox is the superintendent of the Fairfield Township Public School District in Cumberland County. A spokesperson for the school wasn’t immediately available for comment on Monday.

It was unknown why he made the arrangement to spy on his wife, or what exactly lead to the attack on the store employee.

Knox makes $140,000 a year with the district, according to nj.com. He was arraigned on Friday and released after posting bail, which was set at $35,000. He posted 10 percent and is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 13.
