The Hits Keep Coming for West Deptford Majors
The squad defeated Cherry Hill in the opening round of the Section 4 tournament.
The power did not go out for the West Deptford Major Division District 15 champions when the team moved on to the next level.
In fact, it continues to shine through.
West Deptford got home runs from Derek Wakeley and Brian Bernetich in a 9-6 win over Cherry Hill in the opening round of the Section 4 Tournament Sunday.

“It was unbelievable,” West Deptford coach Mark Ainsley said. “The team we played was a real good team, they hit the ball good. We got good pitching and continued to hit the ball well. It was a steady offensive show.”
West Deptford trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Wakeley connected on a solo home run to tie the game.

After helping the team with his bat, Wakeley took command on the mound, pitching 4 2/3 innings to pick up the win. Drew Wilden got the final four outs in relief.
The pitching was supported by a hot West Deptford offense that continued to pound the ball. Moonie Garrison had an RBI single and Brian Bernetich hit a 2-run home run in the fifth to give West Deptford a lead it would not relinquish.
In picking up the win, West Deptford showed it not only could hit for power, but also average.
“Even though we had two home runs, it seemed like we played ball again with singles,“ Ainsley said.
West Deptford will be back in action Wednesday at 7 pm. in Haddonfield against the winner of Erial-Berlin.
