Theater Looking For Electrician to Keep Show on Stage

A local production of "Oklahoma!" is on hold due to electrical needs.

The old Broadway adage, "the show must go on," is being put to the test on Hessian Avenue.

The West Deptford Little Theatre’s production of "Oklahoma!," scheduled to run Thursday evening, hit a road bump, thanks to some thieves and a technicality.

St. Matthew’s School, which hosts the program's productions, was vandalized around 2 a.m. Sunday, and eight microphones were stolen from the school’s gymnasium.

Temporary lights and sound have been placed in the school; however, without proper permits being filed, the show will not be allowed to proceed as scheduled.

According to one of the theater’s organizers, a Pennsylvania contractor properly installed and signed off on the temporary equipment, but cannot sign off on the permit, since he's from out of state.

Because of this, theater workers are scrambling to find a New Jersey electrician to re-look over the temporary equipment and sign off on the condition of the electrical box.

Thursday’s scheduled production will be the first of the summer, and will feature around 20 children performing. Overall, the West Deptford Little Theatre has 120 students enrolled in its summer program.
