Video Shows N.J. Police Saving Woman From Heroin Overdose

A video shows a young N.J. woman suffering from a heroin overdose, and police saving her by using Narcan.

A stunning video posted on YouTube shows a woman suffering from a heroin overdose, and then being saved by police in New Jersey.

The 8:54-minute video shows the young woman struggling to breath as police officers and EMS arrive and administer Narcan, an opiate antidote.

“She’s breathing,” one person can be heard, urging her continuously through the video to stay alive. “C’mon, baby.”

The video, which nj.com says was recorded Sunday on Crown Point Road in West Deptford, has attracted more than 50,000 views but also has drawn protests from the family - and from the victim herself - about the woman’s right of privacy.

“Listen everyone your not just hurting me; you’re hurting my 8-year old daughter plzz stop...plzz,” the woman, whom Patch declined to identify, posted on Facebook. ”I kno there a youtube video of me up but out of respest of my family n lil daughter wbo goes pn facebook plz dnt share or if u wanna ask me anything!\ ask me plz have a goodnight.”

Comments on the video became a debate between the right of the woman’s privacy versus the need to expose the troubles with drugs.

“People complaining about violating her privacy??? Seriously? Then maybe she should have privately overdosed in her own home instead of in the middle of the sidewalk in Paulsboro... outside... IN PUBLIC!!,” one person said.

“They didn’t have to put the poor girls business all over YouTube and Facebook,” another said.

West Deptford Police Chief Sam DiSimone didn’t condone the video’s posting on social media, but told nj.com that it could help deter someone from using drugs.

“It bothers you every time you see it,” he told nj.com. “You never really want to see it out there, however if it’s a wakeup call for some people...When this circulates you see exactly what happens. Some people don’t realize it was that graphic or scary.”

The woman in the video had been traveling home from Camden with her brother when she passed out in the car, police said in the report. Her brother dragged her out of the car and began attempting CPR while others gathered to help, and called police. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and released.
