West Deptford High School Baseball Team to Play for State Title

The Eagles advanced to the final with a 2-0 win over Delaware Valley on Tuesday.

West Deptford, NJ -- The West Deptford High School baseball team is one win away from a state title.

The Eagles defeated Delaware Valley, 2-0, in the semifinals of the NJSIAA State Group 2 playoffs on Wednesday at Rowan College at Gloucester County, according to nj.com.

West Deptford will face Parsipanny, an 8-3 winner over Jefferson, in the state final on Saturday in Toms River.

Drew Wilden struck out eight batters and gave up five hits, but walked no one, according to the report. He pitched six innings to pick up the win.

Ryan Baglivo put the Eagles on the board in the first inning with an RBI double that plated Eric Ainsley. Matt Britt added an insurance run with an RBI single in the fifth.

West Deptford will play for its first state title on Saturday. It last made the state playoffs in 2011, when it fell to Governor Livingston, 12-3, in the semifinals, according to maxpreps.com.

The Eagles won their first South Jersey title since 2011 last week, when they defeated Cinnaminson, 3-1, in the final.

Delaware Valley was the Central Jersey Group 2 champion.

Parsipanny was the North 2, Group 2 champion.

West Deptford entered the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs as the No. 1 seed.

The Eagles opened the playoffs with a 9-0 win over No. 16 Pennsauken Tech.

The Eagles then defeated No. 8 Barnegat, and likely top draft pick Jason Groome, 2-1, in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, West Deptford downed No. 4 Audubon, 8-0.
