After a middle-of-the-road finish in the regular season, there was plenty of cause to doubt the West Deptford American Legion baseball team's chances in the District 4 tournament. But the sparkling play of the first two games continued in the winner's-bracket final, where West Deptford scored a 10-3 win over Allentown Saturday evening to lock up a berth in the state tournament. West Deptford took advantage of 10 walks and seven errors by Allentown, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the third, which became a 7-0 lead midway through the fifth. Allentown crept back with a home run in the sixth, but never threatened in the game, the third straight blowout victory for West Deptford. The win puts West Deptford into the state tournament with some extra rest—Allentown will battle it out with the winner of Bordentown-Haddon Heights in a loser's-bracket final Sunday to determine the runner-up in the district.
