West Deptford Students To Enroll In Military After Graduation

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ - Five West Deptford High School students were among 35 seniors from across Gloucester County who were honored during the Board of Chosen Freeholders’ seventh annual Enlistee Recognition Ceremony at Bogey’s Club and Cafe’ on Thursday, May 2, officials announced. These students have chosen to enlist in the U.S. Military after graduation.

“We cannot thank these students enough for their dedication and bravery,” Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said. “These students have taken on the decision to defend their country and this ceremony gives us a chance to thank them and send them off knowing their choice is appreciated.”

“We wanted to celebrate and recognize these students for their selfless decision to enter the military and protect our freedom and way of life,” Freeholder Dan Christy, liaison to the Office of Veteran Affairs said. “So many high school seniors are recognized when they choose to attend a certain college or university. We wanted to make sure that those students who chose to enter the military were also celebrated and recognized.”

During the ceremony, students were paired and seated with veterans from the community and during the dinner, each student was the recipient of an award from a representative of their branch of the military.

“By pairing students with our local veterans, we wanted them to have a chance to connect with those who have been in a position similar to their own,” Christy said. “It is a great opportunity to have any questions they may have be answered.”
