WESTFIELD, NJ — A brand new fire truck will be purchased and an older fire truck will be refurbished for just under $1.3 million.

The Westfield Town Council passed a special bond ordinance on Tuesday to authorize the purchase of a new fire engine pumper apparatus and refurbishment of one of their older fire engine pumpers for $1.295 million.

The refurbishment is in lieu of purchasing a second apparatus and will allow the truck to have another 5 to 7 years of useful life, said Councilwoman Linda Habgood at the Aug. 13 meeting.

The reconditioning of a pumper fire engine is estimated to cost $282,000 and will extend its life for at least another five years.

"This purchase and refurbishment is anticipated in the 2024 budget," said Habgood, who thanked Fire Chief Michael Duelks and his apparatus committees for their help with the purchase.
