3 DWI Arrests, Package Thefts, Fraud Reported In Westfield

Westfield Police also reported burglary and a found bike in the latest blotter.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Multiple arrests for driving while intoxicated and obstruction along with package thefts were some of the incidents reported in last week's police blotter.

Westfield Police Blotter – March 24 to March 30:

On March 24 at 11:23 a.m.: Westfield Police received a report of a found bicycle at Tamaques Park. The bicycle was reported as abandoned. A Westfield Police officer found the bicycle with no known owner in the area. The bicycle was secured by the Westfield Police for safekeeping until an owner could be found. The serial number on the bicycle was checked and the bicycle was not reported stolen. The bicycle is a purple Kent bicycle.

On March 25 at 1 a.m.: Officer Picciano and Officer Marlow went to the 200 block of West Dudley Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle crash. Subsequent to their investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Ryan Nurnberger, 23, Scotch Plains, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to Westfield Police Headquarters where he was processed and released to a sober adult.

On March 26 at 1 p.m.: An unknown suspect was seen by a resident's Ring doorbell camera stealing two packages from their front porch at 200 block of Wyoming St. The suspect was described as wearing a dark-colored jacket, black sweatpants, and white shoes. The total cost of the items stolen was $84.98.

On March 26 at 6:22 p.m.: A resident of the 600 block of Hanford Place reports being the victim of fraud/identity theft. The victim was informed that his/her identifying information was used to apply for a lease to inhabit an apartment but was denied. The victim's Bank then advised him/her that a request was made via phone call to make changes to his/her personal account. No monetary loss has occurred however the victim's identifying information has been compromised.

On March 27 at 8:30 p.m.: A victim from the 500 block of East North Avenue reported an incident of theft. Specifically, the victim reported that an unknown suspect removed a package from his front porch and left the area on foot. The victim suffered a monetary loss of $10 from this incident.

On March 28 at 3:57 p.m.: A resident of the 400 block of West North Avenue reported being a victim of check fraud. The victim reported someone used two fraudulent checks in the victim's name to withdraw $7,000 from the victim's bank account.

On March 28 at 5:03 p.m.: Officer Loffredo and Officer Perconte went to the 600 block of West South Avenue for a welfare check of a motorist. Pursuant to their investigation, Meghan Lapolla, 34, Garwood, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to Westfield Police Headquarters. At Headquarters she was processed and released to a sober adult.

On March 28 at 8 p.m.: The owner of a property on the 500 block of Springfield Avenue reported a burglary to the premise and an attempted theft of tools. Several suspects gained entry into a locked premise and tried to pry open a lock box containing tools. Damage was done to the box with an approximate value of $500.

On March 30 at 2:30 a.m.: Jonathan Faggins, 63, Westfield, was arrested for obstructing administration of law. Westfield Police Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on Faggins vehicle on the 200 block of Cacciola Place. Faggins then fled from his motor vehicle once stopped. Faggins was arrested following a foot pursuit by Westfield Police Officers and taken to Westfield Police Headquarters. Faggins was processed and released on a summons with a mandatory Westfield Municipal Court date as well as multiple motor vehicle summons.

On March 30 at 6:19 a.m.: William Goggel IV, 24, Fords, was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on W. North Avenue and Crossway Place and subsequent investigation. He was additionally arrested on the strength of a Woodbridge Municipal Court outstanding warrant for $1,500. Goggel was released to a sober adult following processing and posting the full bail.
