3 Fad Diets to Avoid

Americans are great at losing weight. Unfortunately, they are even better at putting that weight back on. This is because many people rely on fad diets that initially help them drop the fat, but cannot be sustained comfortably for long periods. Here are 3 fad diets to avoid if you want your weight loss to be a success.

Diet # 1- Zero Carb Diet

The Atkins Diet gained massive popularity in the last 1990s and early 2000s, and is the foundation for many 0 (or extremely low) carb diets today. The problem is two-fold:

1. When weight loss stalls, there are no more carbs to take out of your diet to help break through the plateau.

2. Once you reach your goal weight and begin to eat carbs again, your metabolism won’t be acclimated to them and you will put on fat.

Reducing carbohydrates is a useful tool for shedding body fat, but there is absolutely no need to cut them out completely.

Diet # 2- Low Fat Diet

Cutting fat is great for reducing calories, but keeping fat too low will disrupt your body’s hormone production. This can lead to decreased mood, energy, and even sex drive. I recommend most people never go below 30-40g of fat per day.

Diet # 3- Meal Plans

Some dieters like to have all the guess-work taken out by choosing a plan that maps out specific foods and portion sizes for every meal. However, no two bodies are alike, so selecting a generalized meal plan is a poor approach for trying to reach YOUR goals. Also, sticking to a cookie-cutter meal plan will not prepare someone for eating habits after weight-loss.

A diet will not make a lasting change if it uses extreme measures. It needs to be a regimen that can fit a lifestyle. Interested in transforming your body this year? Let us help you get the body you deserve. Call GameChanger Gym at 908-376-9002 to schedule your FREE fitness assessment.
