4) Today is the 148th anniversary of the fire extinguisher being patented, the 131st anniversary of the founding of the YWCA, the 78th anniversary of the singing telegram and the 44th anniversary of the ratification of the 25th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which allows for the appointment of a Vice President of the United States in the event of a vacancy, along with stating that the vice president becomes president and not acting president in the event of succession. Minnesota and Nevada were the last two states to ratify the amendment.
5) Today is Umbrella Day.
