$660K Memorial Park Playground Replacement Underway
Public Works removed the existing equipment last week, and installation of the new playground began on Monday.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Work began Monday on the roughly $660,000 replacement of Memorial Playground to make it fully ADA-compliant and accessible to all.
Public Works removed the existing equipment last week, and installation of the new playground began on Monday.
"This will be a fully accessible playground, which not only reinforces our overall commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in Westfield, but also continues the tradition established when the existing facility was installed as the Town’s first accessible playground by Eagle Scout Gregory Ryan," according to Town of Westfield, New Jersey.

The Town Council passed a resolution at its May 14 meeting to authorize an award of contract to MRC Recreation, representing Game Time Inc, for the purchase and installation of playground equipment for Memorial Park through the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (ESCNJ), at a fee not to exceed $660,136.96.
A special ordinance for $474,000 and various grant programs also awarded to Westfield for $185,000 will cover the cost of the purchase — including a $100,000 grant awarded as part of the Union County Board of County Commissioners' 2024 Union County Infrastructure and Municipal Aid grant program.

The playground is located at 713 Cumberland St. in Westfield.
