📰 News we're reading

• Pedestrians at Risk Crossing North Ave. by Train Station, Councilman Warns (tapinto.net) — A Westfield councilman is pressing for fixes to what he calls a “disaster waiting to happen” at the North Avenue crossing by the NJ Transit station and Fire House #1, where drivers may unknowingly run red lights as pedestrians walk. Town officials say the state controls the aging traffic signal, but they’re exploring temporary safety measures while urging motorists to obey the stop bar and yield to walkers.

• N.J. adds 8k voters in April, mostly unaffiliated (newjerseyglobe.com) — Westfield residents are represented in a congressional district where Democrats modestly outpaced Republicans in new voter registrations last month, while unaffiliated voters drove most of the growth. Statewide, New Jersey added more than 8,700 voters in April, keeping party balances largely unchanged but underscoring how independents now dominate new sign-ups.

• Three Is a Magic Number for Scotch Plains-Fanwood Tennis as Team, Singles, and Doubles Come in Third (tapinto.net) — Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s boys tennis team, expected to rebuild this year, instead grabbed third place in the 16-team Union County Tournament with several strong performances. First singles player Ethan Li notched a key win over New Providence before falling to Westfield, while other Raiders battled through tight matches that highlighted the young squad’s resilience and growing confidence.
