According to the department, officers who see someone wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle, scooter or skateboard — or otherwise practicing safe cycling habits — may stop and provide a coupon for a free ice cream cone.

The coupons can be redeemed at one of three participating Westfield ice cream shops: Mrs. C's Soft Serve, Mr. Whipy's or Northside Creamery.

In announcing the program, the department encouraged residents to "stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy your summer rides."
