3 Adults, 3 Kids Injured When Car Crashes Into Home In Union

UNION, NJ — A total of six people including four children were injured following a two-car collision where one vehicle crashed into a home across from a daycare center Friday morning in Union, according to township officials.

An earlier report from RLS Media said the car crashed into the daycare center. The daycare center is actually across the street.

Joseph Cajuste, 55, of Hillside was driving a 2002 Nissan Exterra at 7:17 a.m. on Vauxhall Road near the intersection of Stuyvesant Avenue when his vehicle was hit by a 2010 Chevy Camaro trying to make a left turn onto Stuyvesant Ave, according to Union Police.

Cajuste swerved to try and avoid the crash and ended up continuing down Vauxhall Road at ha high speed hitting two other vehicles before crashing into the front left corner of a home at 1088 Cedar Terrace, Union Police reported.

Two residents were home at the time of the crash but were not injured. The house, however, was deemed inhabitable due to the structural damage.

Cajuste and passengers — which included an adult male and four juveniles — were transported to University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark with serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to the report.

Vauxhall Road between Stuyvesant Avenueand Pine Avenue was closed for about four hours while the crash scene was processed.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Officer Frederic Sa of the Union Police Department.
