Construction Worker Killed In Fall Identified As Union County Man
The 29-year-old man was trying to install a storm drain using an excavator when he was killed, said police.
CRANFORD, NJ — A construction worker who died last week after falling into a trench in Kenilworth has been identified as Corey Greg Stasenko, 29, of Cranford, confirmed Kenilworth Police.
Stasenko died on May 6 while trying to install a storm drain using an excavator in the back of a business at 351 Monroe Ave. in Kenilworth, said police.
During the installation, he fell into the trench and became trapped underneath construction debris, police said.

Stasenko was born in Summit and was a long-time resident of South Plainfield before purchasing a house in Cranford in 2022, according to his obituary.
He was a graduate of South Plainfield High School, Class of 2013, he studied Human Resources at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, and studied plumbing at Middlesex County Magnet School - Piscataway.

Having a passion for wrestling, Stasenko through high school and also played football for the town team.
Dedicated to his career, he started his own company Stasenko Landscaping & Hardscaping before graduating school in 2023 to become a licensed plumber.
He was currently working for K and D Contractors in Kenilworth.
"When he was young, Corey enjoyed skateboarding, and as he got older, he loved snowboarding, could be found out on the golf course, and had a passion for art, drawing and cooking," according to his obituary.
He is predeceased by his grandparents Alex Stasenko and Lillian Scarpa. He is survived by his parents, Lisa Scarpa, and Gregory Stasenko, and his siblings, Alisha Stasenko, and Joshua Stasenko. He will also be missed by his grandparents, Stella Stasenko and Bernard Scarpa, the Prasek and Dinizo families, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating Stasenko's death.
