Council Cuts Conservation Center Hours
Delayed opening will save money in budget.

Hours at the Conservation Center have been shortened, one of the town's measures to reduce spending to account for falling revenues.
The center will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekends when it's open, Mayor Andy Skibitsky said during Tuesday evening's Town Council meeting.
Through the winter, it had been open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The change is part of the town's attempt "to continue to provide the services that we provide" while covering a budget shortfall," he said.
The Town Council has already instituted a hiring freeze in town government and merged the Department of Human Services with the county as part of the budget writing process. Gov. Chris Christie has cut the town's state aid payment by for the coming year.

About 900 people have signed up to use the facility, he said. During Saturday's registration period, a traffic jam was reported on Lamberts Mill Road leading to the conservation center.
Separately, Skibitsky asked residents who haven't completed and returned their U.S. Census forms to do so. About 71% of the town has done so already, "which is a C-minus," he said.
