Westfield Crew celebrated Mother’s Day in great style at the Long Island Junior Rowing Championship with seven boats winning medals, including gold for the men’s junior varsity and women’s novice quads.
“This is the best showing we’ve ever had,” said Westfield Crew Coach Rob Greenwood. “I’m proud of everybody. It was an overall great effort.”
Under sunny skies in a daylong regatta made up entirely of 1,500-meter sprints, the Women’s Novice quads got things started early with two exciting races in rapid succession: a silver medal for the B Boat, with Sarah Sarkos, Sarah Lampert, Emily McClane and Katy Eliades; and gold for the A Boat, with Sandy Choi, Erika May, Sarah Friedman and Cecilia Mosco.

At midday, Amanda Adsit and Charlotte Dreizen took silver in the women’s Lightweight Double. Afterwards, the women’s Junior Varsity quad, with Sandy Choi, Cecilia Mosco, Delia Annitsakis and Ann Sexton took silver.
Then it was the men’s turn. The Junior Varsity A Boat took gold with David Adsit, David Verchick, Matt Huff and Malcolm Spurlock. The JV B Boat, with Dan Brotman, Ryan Don, Alex Dumont and Lawrence Keating took a bronze. And a novice quad consisting of Matt Lazarotti, Conor Martinson, Sam Cravo and Drew Mellusi also took a bronze.
