Fraud, Identity Theft, Shoplifting Reported In Westfield
Westfield Police released its blotter for March 15 to March 21:
WESTFIELD, NJ — Fraud, identity theft, shoplifting and a suspicious person were reported recently in Westfield.

On March 15 at 4:22 p.m.: A resident of the 600 block of West Broad Street reported an unauthorized charge of $1,598.31 on her Bank of America debit card for a purchase on the Apple website. Further investigation showed that someone then picked up the order at the Short Hills Apple store.

On March 16 at 12:30 p.m.: A resident of the 1000 block of Lawrence Avenue reported that a mailed check was intercepted and altered. The name was changed and the amount was changed from $240 to $2,400. The bank replaced the disputed amount, and no monetary loss has occurred.
On March 16 at 9 p.m.: A Garwood resident reports that a suspicious man, described as being in his late 30s and wearing all black, approached her and solicited cash on two separate occasions, once in February and the latest being on March 16. The incidents are reported to both have happened as the complainant entered her vehicle at around 9 p.m.

On March 18 at 4:40 p.m.: A resident of Normandy Drive reported an incident of fraud. The victim stated that an investment account was hacked and a wire transfer of $29,600 was made. The victim is at a monetary loss.
On March 21 at 7:10 p.m.: The manager of a business on the 200 block of East North Avenue reported that two people stole an unknown amount of personal hygiene products and fled the area on foot.
