Homicide Count Up To 12 Following Shooting On Thursday In Union County

Breaking: The man was found shot multiple times and dead at a restaurant in Plainfield. A teenager was also shot and killed on Monday.

PLAINFIELD, NJ — Another man was fatally shot in Plainfield on Thursday, the second this week, bringing the homicide count in the city to 12, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Friday.

On Monday night, Dec. 26, an 18-year teenager was shot and killed along with another man shot in Plainfield.

The dead victim has been identified as 32-year-old Shamar Coleman of Plainfield.

Plainfield Police responded to a restaurant on the 1000 block of East Second Street at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, where they found Coleman, who was shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Park said.

This incident is now under joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
