Hymnal Dedication Weekend at PCW

Hymnal Dedication Weekend at Presbyterian Church in Westfield

The Presbyterian Church in Westfield invites the community to special services on Saturday evening, February 1 and Sunday, February 2, 2014, to dedicate the new church hymnal. The dedication on Saturday will  take place in the Chapel at the 5 p.m. service and on Sunday at the 8 a.m. service in the Chapel. The 10 a.m. service in the Sanctuary at 140 Mountain Avenue will be the culminating activity.

Ed Alstrom, the Director of Music and Organist at the church explained the enthusiastic reaction to the book. “We have been using the new hymnal ‘Glory to God’ for almost a month now after Session’s unanimous vote to adopt it. The hymnal has been very well received, offering us not only many options for new hymns, but the inclusion of many old favorites omitted from the old hymnal.”

The hymnal features 853 musical selections with current songs “Open the Eyes of My Heart,” “In Remembrance”, “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace” and traditional hymns like “Rock of Ages” and “Be Still My Soul.”

On February 2 especially the congregation will get to sing more hymns than usual at both the 8 a.m. service in the Chapel and the 10 a.m. service in the Sanctuary.

Mr. Alstrom continued, “These services promise to provide a soul-stirring morning of joyful song by the Chancel Choir and the congregation in praise and thanksgiving to God for the many blessings we enjoy at the Presbyterian Church in Westfield.”
