Voit, desperate for resources for her gifted son took the challenge upon herself – to create educational and social opportunities for a population which she says is “grossly under-served.” Voit founded HEROES Gifted in 2007.  In October 2013, Voit took a leap, she sold her house and built a school for the gifted in New Brunswick, NJ.

“No mother should have to go through the stress and anxiety of sending their 9 year old son to a University.”  Voit’s son began at Rutgers University when he was just nine years old, taking six credits during Rutgers condensed three week winter session.

“While I’m thrilled with the successes that we’ve enjoyed over the years, I also realize that HEROES cannot fill all of the needs of these children and families.” Voit says

Over the years, Voit has hosted numerous resources seminars to serve the gifted community – to provide an opportunity for students, parents and educators to become informed about resources that are available and create unity amongst a largely disconnected community.

“It can be very lonely at times being the parent of an exceptionally gifted child. Having a non-competitive and supportive community of parents and educators is priceless.” HEROES Academy parent Barbara Pulliam says.

The NJ Gifted Resources Seminar and Pool Party in August will be a vital step in the connection of the gifted community.

“Gifted programs are necessary for students who need more than the school district can reasonably provide or for those who are gifted but not thriving in a traditional school.” Ivy Educational Services Director Jacqueline Byrne says.

Ivy Educational Services is one amongst many gifted organizations sponsoring the event; including the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children[NJAGC], Hoagies Gifted Educational Page, the Gifted Homeschoolers Forum, Ivy Educational Services, The College of New Jersey's Center for Excellence in STEM Education, and HEROES Academy for the Gifted.

“This is going to be the largest gathering of New Jersey Gifted resources, programs, parents, students and educators I have seen,” HEROES Academy co-founder Danielle Voit says.

The August seminar will feature presentations from Carolyn Kottmeyer [Founder, Hoagies], Chris Anderson[Director TCNJ's Center for Excellence in STEM Education], Nathan Levy[President, NJAGC], Michael Goeller [Associate Director, Rutgers Writing Program] and Rita Voit[Founder, HEROES Academy].

While parents and educators take advantage of the convergence of gifted resources, students will enjoy swimming, science fairs, a splash park, organized games, sports fields and more.  The event will be hosted at Eagles Landing Day Camp in North Brunswick, NJ.  Similar events in the past have attracted up to 700 people; sponsors expect up to 1000 attendees this year.
