Interstate 78 East Ramp To Close In Union County On Thursday

The closure will be from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on March 30 to remove the concrete barrier and reopen the right turn lane, said NJDOT.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — The Interstate 78 eastbound ramp from Diamond Hill Road in Berkeley Heights is scheduled to be closed on Thursday to remove the concrete barrier and reopen the right turn lane onto the ramp, announced New Jersey Department of Transportation(NJDOT).

Work is expected from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., however, if completed earlier the ramp will reopen sooner.

In addition, the right lane on Diamond Hill Road northbound remains closed for drainage work. It is expected to reopen later this spring. One lane will be maintained.

The following ramp detours will be in place on March 30:

Diamond Hill Road northbound to I-78 eastbound:

  • Motorists on Diamond Hill Road northbound wishing to take the ramp to I-78 eastbound will be directed to turn right onto Valley Road, which is before the ramp to I-78 eastbound
  • Turn left onto Glenside Avenue
  • Turn left to take the ramp to I-78 eastbound

Diamond Hill Road southbound to I-78 eastbound detour:

  • Motorists on Diamond Hill Road southbound wishing to take the ramp to I-78 eastbound will be directed to turn left onto McMane Avenue, which is before the ramp to I-78 eastbound
  • Turn left onto Glenside Avenue
  • Turn left to take the ramp to I-78 eastbound

The work is part of a $10.5 million state-funded maintenance project to improve drainage at various locations in eight counties throughout North Jersey.
