WESTFIELD, NJ — As of Thursday, there are now 42 cases of the new coronavirus in Westfield. The new coronavirus outbreak in New Jersey and across the nation is having vast impacts in Westfield, including the closure of schools and many businesses.
The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures and closures continue to be announced.
Mayor Shelley Brindle posted updated numbers on Facebook and suggested that given the number of cases expected to arise in the coming days, the health department may not be able to report daily local case numbers.

SCHOOLS
Westfield schools will observe spring break beginning April 6. Remote instruction will resume on April 14.

BUSINESSES
Westfield has created "Virtual Downtown," which allows residents to order for delivery or buy products online from the town's local businesses, from bookstores to liquor stores. MORE
The #WeLoveLocal fund has raised $145,000 to support Westfield’s independent businesses. The Westfield United Fund began sending checks to 85 local businesses on Wednesday and any additional business applications for funding will be considered for the next distribution pool. HOSPITALS
The Union County COVID-19 Test Center at Kean University has implemented a new "telehealth" procedure for people seeking a test.
The tennis courts at Memorial Park, Tamaques Park and Elm St. fields, all basketball courts and all parking lots have been closed. Park will remain open for walking, running and bicycling.
