Letter to the Editor: McCready Not Seeking Reelection to BOE

Two-term incumbent announces retirement due to personnel and professional commitments.

To the Editor:

I will not be running for re-election for a  2011-2014 term seat  on the Westfield Board of Education due to personal and professional commitments.

I have valued and enjoyed working with my fellow Board members and the district's administration and staff on a variety of projects, issues and policies over the past six years. I am proud of what we've accomplished together, but I also know there are many challenges ahead in these difficult fiscal times. I wish them all the best.

I encourage those interested to seriously consider running for the seat I am vacating. We need dedicated and creative people to serve on Westfield's Board of Education who can continue our tradition of a great education while operating under increasingly difficult financial constraints.  I've always believed in the phrase "A mind is a terrible thing to waste," and without finding out a way to maintain the District's services, I fear there will be many children's minds that will not be developed to their potential. Please consider serving and run for a seat on Westfield's Board of Education.
