Loaded Gun Hidden In Bushes Near Union High School Prompts Lockdown

Two students were arrested after police say they hid the loaded gun inside a fanny pack in bushes near the school on Thursday.

UNION, NJ — Two students were arrested after police say they hid a loaded gun inside a fanny pack in the bushes near Union High School on Thursday.

At 8:11 a.m., Union Township Police got a call from a resident in the area of Union High School who reported finding a discarded fanny pack in the bushes near Stahuber Drive.

Patrol officers determined the fanny pack had a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P 380 with the serial number scratched off.

Detectives then found a home with an outside camera where footage showed two students hiding the fanny pack/satchel, said police.

Authorities then notified the Union High School Principal of the investigation and the school was placed into lockdown.

Officers played the video for the school staff and the school resource officer immediately was able to identify the two students who left the gun hidden in the bushes, said police.

Both students were removed from their classes and placed under arrest without incident. The students Woodeberlens Audies, 19, and a 17-year-old juvenile are being charged with the illegal possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun that was defaced.

Both of the students are still at police headquarters as the police report and criminal charges are completed.

"We are increasing our patrols in the area of the school and will have extra officers in the area in case there are any other calls or problems," said police.
